A licensed Professional Engineer stands behind every structural project BaseWorks runs. Engineer-stamped drawings, site review, permit support, and structural inspection are built into the scope from day one, never tacked on as an afterthought.
ENGINEERING SERVICES
Any time a renovation, repair, or foundation project touches load paths, structural members, or foundation elements, structural engineering becomes a requirement, not an option. The City of Hamilton enforces this through the permit process itself - engineer-stamped drawings are a condition of permit issuance for underpinning, load bearing wall removal, foundation repair, and structural additions.
We work exclusively with licensed Professional Engineers (P.Eng.) registered in Ontario, and the engineer gets engaged at the very start of a project, not brought in after the fact. That means engineering input shapes the design and specification before construction begins, instead of getting retrofitted onto drawings that were already locked in.
Every engagement includes an on-site assessment before drawings are even prepared, full engineered drawings for permit submission, review of site conditions at key construction stages, and the engineer's inspection report and letter required to close out the permit. Structural engineering is built into the project fee - it's never billed as a separate line item you have to manage yourself.

Every engagement is complete, not a drawing-only service you have to supplement elsewhere.
PRICING
Fees depend on project scope and how many site visits and drawing revisions the job actually needs. Engineering fees are baked into the project quote, so you see them in the total proposal rather than getting a separate engineering invoice partway through the job.
For homeowners who need engineering assessment or drawings without BaseWorks doing the construction, standalone engineering engagements are available separately - reach out to discuss what you need.
COMMON QUESTIONS
What Hamilton homeowners and contractors ask most about engineering requirements.
It's required for basement underpinning (the City mandates engineer-stamped drawings and site review), load bearing wall removal (an engineered beam and post design is required for permit), foundation repair involving wall reinforcement or underpinning, and any structural renovation where the City requires engineer sign-off before issuing a permit.
For underpinning specifically, it includes a review of existing foundation and soil conditions, the underpinning sequence and method design, engineer-stamped drawings for permit submission, site visits at key construction stages, the structural inspection letter for permit closeout, and engineering liability coverage. We manage that entire engagement as part of every underpinning project.
Yes. For underpinning, load bearing wall removal, or structural repair, the engineer is required to make at least one on-site visit before drawing preparation, plus additional reviews at construction stages. The City of Hamilton requires that site review as a condition of permit approval for underpinning specifically.
You can hire a structural engineer independently, but coordination goes far more smoothly when the engineer and contractor work together from the start. Sequencing, inspection access, and specification compliance all get easier when the engineer already knows the contractor's methods. We work with engineers experienced specifically in Hamilton residential underpinning and renovation work.
Fees for residential projects typically run $2,500 to $8,000, depending on scope - a simple load bearing wall removal needs far less engineering work than full perimeter underpinning. We include those fees in the project quote itself, so the cost is visible in the proposal rather than billed as a surprise later.
We provide structural engineering Hamilton support on projects across the city and the surrounding area.
Tell us about your project - underpinning, wall removal, foundation repair, or a straight assessment. We'll confirm exactly what engineering it requires and fold that into your project proposal.
